When is your MCS-150 update due?

How the schedule works
Two digits decide everything. It catches carriers out because the date has nothing to do with when they registered or last filed.
The last digit sets the month
1 is January, 2 February, and so on to 9 September. A number ending in 0 files in October. The update is due by the last day of that month.
The next-to-last digit sets the year
Odd means odd-numbered years; even means even-numbered years. That's why it's called a biennial update: every 24 months, not every year.
Filing early still counts
Any MCS-150 update in the 12 months immediately before the due date satisfies that cycle, per FMCSA's published FAQ.
Nothing changed is not an exemption
The update is required even when your address, fleet size and officers are all the same as last time.

How is the MCS-150 due date decided?
By your USDOT number, not by when you registered. Do I still file if nothing about my company changed?
Yes. FMCSA's published FAQ is explicit that the biennial update is required even when none of your information has changed.
I filed recently. Does that count for this cycle?

What happens if I miss it?
49 CFR 390.19(b) provides for civil penalties and deactivation of the USDOT number. A deactivated number is the kind of problem that stops loads, so file late rather than not at all.
